Vinted Equation

2025 NUMBERS AT A GLANCE*

  • €21.6 billion saved by Vinted members on adult fashion, compared to original retail prices for new items

  • The average price for fashion items on Vinted is 72% lower than original retail prices for new items

  • 88% of buyers check Vinted before buying something new

  • 52% of sellers list items to avoid wasting what someone else might want

  • 76% of purchases on Vinted avoided buying a new item

  • 1,607 kilotonnes of CO₂e avoided by shopping second-hand on Vinted

Vilnius, 19th of May, 2026 – Vinted buyers collectively saved €21.6 billion on adult fashion items alone in 2025 - paying on average 72% less than the original retail price. New research from Vinted shows that when second-hand shopping is reliable, easy and cost-effective, it can make a real difference to people’s finances and the climate.

For many, that money is going straight back to where it matters: 63% of buyers say Vinted helps them manage family expenses better, and just as many (63%) say it lets them treat themselves or their families more often. 31% of members use their savings for everyday essentials like food and bills.

The findings reflect what Vinted calls the “Vinted Equation”: more savings, and less waste, equals greater impact. Put simply, when people choose second-hand to save or make money, they also reduce waste and clutter. As millions make that choice, those small decisions add up to benefits for both people and the planet.

Marianne Gybels, Senior Director of Sustainability, comments: "The Vinted Equation is straightforward: when second-hand is an easy and more affordable option, people choose it time and time again - and it happens to be a great choice for the climate too. €21.6 billion saved by our members in a single year and 1,607 kilotonnes of CO₂e avoided shows what's possible when millions of people make that choice, one transaction at a time."

Reclaiming Purchasing Power

Three quarters (76%) of members surveyed said that Vinted makes second-hand shopping more accessible. The habit is now part of people’s routine: 88% of buyers check Vinted before buying something new. This results in 50% of members feeling less pressure to cut back in other areas of their lives because of the money they save on the platform.

Rethinking Ownership

Sellers power Vinted: Every time someone lists something they no longer use, it adds more choice to the marketplace, making it easier for buyers to find exactly what they want. 52% of sellers say they list to avoid wasting what someone else could love, while 42% of sellers use Vinted to make some money back on unworn clothes. Around half of them use the money they made to make their next purchase on Vinted - keeping quality items circulating. 41% consider resale value before buying something new, and 56% take better care of their belongings because they know they can sell them later. In 2025, €10.8 billion was returned directly to sellers' pockets by selling on Vinted.

Millions of Choices Add Up

Results show that three-quarters (76%) of orders on Vinted avoided the purchase of a new item. The collective impact of those millions of individual decisions is therefore significant for the climate: 1,607 kilotonnes in avoided  CO₂e emissions, or the equivalent of driving a car around the Earth approximately 164,000 times3.

The findings come from Vinted's 2025 Impact Report, which tracks the financial and environmental behaviour of members across its markets. The full report, including its methodology, is available here.

*Data disclaimer:

The findings are based on three sources: Vinted transaction data from 2025, a representative survey among Vinted members across Europe, and economic and environmental modelling. The full methodology for the calculation of savings and our climate impact can be found in our Impact Report, in the Appendix.

1 Total Community Savings: Savings are calculated as the estimated retail price of a similar new item (same category, same brand, same country) minus the total amount paid on Vinted. Retail price benchmarks were established using a third-party data service to query real-time prices on Google Shopping for a representative sample of new items. The final savings reflect a weighted average based on the sales volume of top brands within each category and market.

2 The findings of the report are based on a comprehensive research effort involving approximately 50,000 Vinted members across nine key European markets. For more details about retrieved data for Vinted’s impact report, please see here

3 Climate impact is expressed as net avoided emissions (kg CO₂e), corresponding to the emissions avoided by not producing a new item, minus emissions generated by the platform (delivery, packaging, transport, and operations). The model is based on life cycle analysis (ISO 14067), LCA data, and a 76% substitution rate. The equivalent of 1,607 kilotonnes in avoided  CO₂e emissions is calculated using the EPA's Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies calculator available here
